Photo Etched Pins
Photo etched pins are very similar in appearance to soft enamel pins, with a few key differences. The etching process allows for a finer level of detail and more intricate designs. The pins themselves are also thinner and lighter than soft enamel pins. Each pin has a 0.8mm-thick base made of copper. While soft enamel pins are die-struck to form the shape and recessed areas of the pin, photo etched pins use a computer to etch the design onto the pin. The process is similar to using film to produce a negative. Once the etching is complete, we fill the recessed areas of the pin with paint. The pins then bake in the oven at 400°F to help the paint adhere to the metal. Once the pins are cool, they receive a thorough polishing to provide a bright, shiny finish. When the process is complete, the pins head to inspection to check for any defects.
After ensuring each and every pin is 100% perfect, the pins are packaged and are ready for shipping! We offer a free clear epoxy coating to protect your pin against the elements. While the epoxy coating is not required, we definitely recommend it for your pins. It adds a layer of shine to your pins, and helps protect them against scratches. Even if your pins are safely stored away in a bag or folder, they can still rub against each other and cause scratches on the paint. The free epoxy coating prevents this from happening and keeps your pins looking new for years to come!
